Exploring Gandhari river area

Having worked on weekdays, I desparately need an outing on Sunday. Kalyan is not very well-known city for outings though. The immidiate destination for proper photography outing lies about 25 -30 km at Yeoor - part of Sanjay Gandhi National Park. However, recently Dhanashri (my wife) and I have discovered 1 decent area for Birding and photography - good enough for 3-4 hours - Gandhari river area. It lies on the outskirts of Kalyan (about 5 km from Kalyan station). Youc an either catch a Bus going to Padgha (frequency isn't too high) or hire a rickshaw. Get down at Gandhari bridge, walk to the other end and take the right turn. Here on, you can enjoy nice trail.

Barn Owl - our new neighbour

Our society is dominated by some quite unusual mis-conceptions...One of them being about this quiet, innocent looking nocturnal bird - Owl. Seeing this creature is considered to be a bad omen (On what basis...Even GOD doesn't know :):)). This Barn owl is a resident of gallery next to us since last about 1.5 years (Neighbour's house being empty).

It's fun watching this bird. He's extremely alert at night (doesnt allow me to shoot much :(:( ) and equally clever. Having got a slightest of hint of someone is after it, the way it looks at me by bending his neck, is a pleasure to watch. You must experiance it :).
